National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA): All coaches (head coach and assistants) must be NYSCA certified.  Certification includes completing the NYSCA intro/core class plus completing the sport specific class.  You must be certified in the appropriate sport (Tee Ball, Baseball, or Softball (Fast & Slow Pitch)) for which you intend to coach.  If you are not NYSCA certified for the appropriate sport, you will not be able to coach in MYO.  Our League Commissioners will email coaches this information once registration has closed and teams are formed.

Below are the training options for 2010:

1. On-line Renewal - If you are NYSCA certified in the sport you will be coaching, simply renew your membership online at WWW.NAYS.ORG or by phone (800) 688-KIDS.

2. Online Certification Rather than attend a training class, you can now certify online at WWW.NAYS.ORG.  This is currently available for all leagues (Tee Ball, Baseball and Softball).   NYSCA Online Certification Guide - Please review the document linked here for some helpful tips:

3. In-person Training Classes only if enough interest exists for Mason to schedule the class.  If you are interested in this option, please contact training@masonyouth.org.

Umpire Payment: At equipment pick-up, each Head Coach will be given a check by MYO in an amount sufficient to cover half the umpire payment for all regular season games.

The Umpire Pay Matrix can be found on page 2 of the Coach Agreement and on the Umpire page of this web site.  To determine the umpire fee that you will be responsible for at each game, divide the amount due based on the the Umpire Pay Matrix and divide by 2.  Please provide cash to the umpires (not a check) and do not request the umpires to make change.  When you cash the MYO check, simply get $5s, $1s, and some quarters so that you will be able to provide the exact correct amount to the umpires.  If you have questions specific to Umpire Payment, please contact your league Commissioner.  Thanks in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

CODE OF ETHICS:

I hereby pledge to live up to my certification as a NYSCA Coach by following the NYSCA Coaches’ Code of Ethics:

I will place the emotional and physical well being of my players ahead of a personal desire to win.

I will treat each player as an individual, remembering the large range of emotional and physical development for the same age group.

I will do my best to provide a safe playing situation for my players.

I will promise to review and practice basic first aid principles needed to treat injuries of my players.

I will do my best to organize practices that are fun and challenging for all my players.

I will lead by example in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to all my players.

I will be knowledgeable in the rules of each sport that I coach, and I will teach these rules to my players.

I will use those coaching techniques appropriate for all of the skills that I teach.

I will remember that I am a youth sports coach, and that the game is for children and not adults.
