Umpires

MYO’s Major Leagues (American, National, Junior and Senior) are now affiliated with Little League International.  The Little League program has a strong history in training and using adult volunteers to umpire their games from the local level all the way to the Little League World Series.  If you are interested in learning more about becoming a volunteer umpire and being trained by Little League, please contact the MYO President at president@masonyouth.org.

MYO also has a strong history in offering local teens and adults the opportunity to umpire in a paid position.  Anyone interested in becoming an MYO umpire must be 12 years of age or older when registering.  Games will begin in late April and end by the end of June.

MYO will be offering umpire training (at no cost) to all current and prospective Baseball & Softball umpires.  If you want to be an umpire for MYO Baseball or Softball in 2010, you must attend the training classes.  Training will include both classroom and on the field work.  Classes will be held once a week for 3-4 hours over a 2 week period.  Training subjects for baseball include: knowledge of Little League Rules, Major League Baseball rules, MYO rules, proper mechanics, strike zone, umpire dress, equipment and game management.  Training subjects for Softball will be the same as Baseball plus knowledge of USSSA and SOGFSA rules.

All umpires that successfully complete the MYO umpire training program will be given the opportunity to sign-up for 2010 season game assignments.   Each potential umpire will complete an Availability Sheet for the entire season to help in scheduling games.   Some level of play is played just about every night and a full slate of games on Saturday.   Make up games and rain outs will be played on Sunday, usually starting after noon.

Mandatory Umpire Training Dates:
New Umpires – March 29th and 31st  6 – 8 PM MI 4/5 Kiva
Experienced Umpires – April 12th 6 – 8 PM MI 4/5 Kiva
April 14th will be a makeup day for all umpires that miss on the other dates.

Umpire Payment: At the beginning of every game, the Head Coach for each team will pay half the total umpire fee for that game.  Umpire payment for the 2010 season.  For all Girls Fast Pitch games, the home coach is responsible for the entire fee.
