MYO will be offering umpire training (at no
cost) to all current and prospective Baseball & Softball umpires. If you
want to be an umpire for MYO Baseball or Softball in 2008, you must attend
the training classes. Training will include both classroom and on the field
work. Classes will be held once a week for 2-3 hours over a 4 week period. Training subjects for baseball include: knowledge of High School Federation
rules, MYO rules, proper mechanics, strike zone, umpire dress, equipment and
game management. Training subjects for Softball will be the same as Baseball
plus knowledge of USSSA and SOGFSA rules.
All umpires that successfully complete the MYO umpire training program will
be given the opportunity to sign-up for 2008 season game assignments. Each
potential umpire will complete an Availability Sheet for the entire season
to help in scheduling games. Some level of play is played just about every
night and a full slate of games on Saturday. Make up games and rain outs
will be played on Sunday, usually starting after noon.
Umpire Training will be held in the Mason City Municipal Building (lower
level classroom) located on Mason Montgomery Road.
All umpires are required to attend all three classroom discussions to be
held at 9:00 am on the following Saturdays: February 16, February 23, March 1
and the one field training to be held on Saturday, March 8 (location to be
announced).
Umpires should
bring a notebook and pen to take notes.
